Still different: Regions

We run in a few EU regions, including Warsaw. Supabase has a dozen-plus regions worldwide — if your users are in Asia or the Americas, that's a real advantage.

Still different: SOC 2

The controls an audit requires (MFA, RBAC, audit logs, encryption, backups, monitoring) are in place. The SOC 2 audit itself is in preparation — we don't have a report yet.

Trust Center

Still different: Company size

We're a smaller team. In exchange: EU invoicing, support in English and Polish, and direct contact with the people building the platform.

Migration

Move a project in 15 minutes

Your app needs no code changes — you only swap the project URL and API keys.

  1. 1Create a HostBase project in the region closest to your users.
  2. 2pg_dump your Supabase database and pg_restore it into HostBase.
  3. 3Copy Storage files with rclone (S3 API).
  4. 4Copy your Auth configuration: OAuth providers and e-mail templates.
  5. 5Swap the URL and anon key in your app's environment variables.

# 1. Export from Supabase
pg_dump "postgresql://postgres:[PASSWORD]@db.[old-ref].supabase.co:5432/postgres" \
  --clean --if-exists --no-owner --no-privileges -Fc -f backup.dump

# 2. Import into HostBase
pg_restore -d "postgresql://postgres:[PASSWORD]@db-[new-ref].host.ulewicz.space:5432/postgres?sslmode=require" \
  --clean --if-exists --no-owner backup.dump

Comparison questions

Is HostBase affiliated with Supabase Inc.?
No. HostBase is an independent service hosting the open-source components of the Supabase stack (Apache 2.0 / MIT / PostgreSQL licenses). Supabase is a trademark of its owner.
Where is Supabase better?
Connection pooling, point-in-time recovery, branching, OAuth and SMTP configuration in the dashboard, and MFA are already in HostBase. The remaining differences: Supabase runs in a dozen-plus regions worldwide (we run in a few EU regions), has a completed SOC 2 Type II audit (our controls are in place and the audit is in preparation — see the Trust Center) and is a much larger company. If you need a region outside Europe or a SOC 2 report today, Supabase is the better choice.
Will users have to sign in again after migrating?
Accounts in auth.users move with the database, password hashes included. Because the JWT secret changes, active sessions expire and users sign in once more — no password resets.
How long does a migration take?
For a typical project up to a few GB — 15 minutes to an hour. On Team and Enterprise we'll do the migration for you.
