MCP in practice: connect Claude to your HostBase database in 2 minutes
The HostBase team
The Model Context Protocol (MCP) is an open standard that lets language models call external tools in a standardized way. Instead of copying keys from the dashboard and pasting them into a chat, you can ask the agent: “create a staging project and add the keys to .env.local”.
Step 1: token
In the dashboard go to Account → Access tokens and generate a token. It starts with hb_pat_.
Step 2: Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http hostbase https://host.ulewicz.space/api/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer hb_pat_..."
Check the connection with the /mcp command in Claude Code — you should see the hostbase server with a list of tools.
Step 3: Cursor
{
"mcpServers": {
"hostbase": {
"url": "https://host.ulewicz.space/api/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer hb_pat_..." }
}
}
}
What the agent can do
- list organizations and projects,
- create a new project in a chosen region,
- fetch the API URL and the
anonkey, - pause and restore a project.
Security first
MCP tools deliberately do not return the service_role key or the database password. You can revoke the token at any time in the dashboard. The full list of tools and the Claude Desktop configuration are in the MCP documentation.
